The historic Citizens and Southern Bank Building located at 148 W. Main St. has been a cornerstone of downtown Spartanburg for nearly 150 years in one form or another and is listed on The National Register of Historic Places. The classically designed bank brought a sense of stability and safety to the city throughout history, serving as an essential part of everyday life for many in downtown and as a visual landmark on Morgan Square. It’s original trademark flag and neon sign of a bald eagle read “Service and Strength” and shined bright upon the city.
The building's owners, Roland and Amy Zimmer, decided it was time to bring the building back to serve the community as The Citizens and Southern Event Space. In the winter of 2020, the building opened its doors once again, under the direction of Aimee Cheek, as a place to gather and celebrate and bring the community together through public and private events.
